Industrial Services, Inc.Desalination consulting, design services and equipment
Industrial Services Inc. can assist in all or any number of areas required to plan, implement, operate and maintain your desalination plant. Defining the Plant Scope refers to establishing the overall project limits that define who is responsible for each part of the Plant, and where the boundaries exist between client and supplier.

Plant Systems
A desalination plant requires a number of subsystems in order to function. These include:
   1. Intake System
   2. Pretreatment System
   3. High Pressure Pumps
   4. Reverse Osmosis System
   5. Post Treatment System
   6. Electrical System
   7. Chemical System
   8. Cleaning System
   9. Control and SCADA System
   10. Water Reservoir
   11. Transfer System

Project Management
The determination of how the management of the project is to take place is critical to the success of the operation. Usually, there is a natural division of labor between the equipment supplier and the civil works team. It is further necessary however to have a site manager on hand that understands the requirements of the desalination system and the civil works and seeks to blend them together. Small unattended details will defeat a large project, and the presence of a competent site manager is critical to the success of the desalination installation.

Construction and Installation
ISI works in cooperation with experienced civil contractors to plan and/or construct the facility where desalination equipment is housed, as well as supervise the installation of process. Equipment will be designed for a particular arrangement that assumes that floors are level and that equipment pads are located in the right position. When these are incorrect, the equipment installation will cost more due to corrections either in the process equipment or the facility construction. Additionally, close attention should be paid toward cooling and ventilation, drainage and corrosion.

Equipment Commissioning
On completion of the installation process, the commissioning process begins. Seawater and power are made available, as are all process connections to the plant. Commissioning of a new system requires many checks on installation accuracy, and requires that the control engineer be present to adjust the control system in order to accommodate any variances of the system. Often a “snagging” list is created with final completion items listed and agreed on between the client and supplier. The snagging list often refers back to the original plant scope.

Training
ISI will assist training the client’s operations staff in the performance of the system. This includes a review of all operations manuals, data logs, design parameters, layouts and arrangements, as well as the controls, safety and electrical systems. Operations staff are also trained in the fundamental process so that when operating changes occur, they will be prepared. Ongoing training and engineering support are recommended on completion of initial training sessions.
